The Sexual Education Advisory Board (SEAB) of Wyandotte Public Schools (WPS) will recommend updated curriculum of instructional videos and materials to the Wyandotte School Board at their Meeting on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, starting at 7 pm.   This curriculum covers grades 4-10.

The SEAB’s recommendations pertain to puberty, abstinence, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD’s), Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI’s), sexual health, and pregnancy.

To view the proposed updated instructional videos and materials please contact Wyandotte Public Schools’ Instruction and Assessment Coordinator, Krizia Totty at 734-759-6021 or

Please be advised that proposed updates are NOT related to topics about the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender or Questioning (LGBTQ) community.   The LGBTQ curriculum will be addressed at a later date.

January 11, 2016

On, January 7, 2016 the Wyandotte Public Schools’ Sexual Education Advisory Board (SEAB) met to solidify the proposed instructional video changes for Physical Education/Health Classes. Upon further review, the SEAB decided to cease recommendations at this time. The SEAB believes that higher quality instructional videos and resources would better serve the students of Wyandotte Public Schools. We will continue to review current resources that meet our needs. As new developments arise, we will make sure to inform our community. Therefore, the SEAB did not make any recommendations to the Wyandotte School Board at their meeting on Tuesday, January 19, 2016.  However, the SEAB has rescheduled this Hearing of the Public for Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at 7 pm, at Wyandotte City Hall, 3200 Biddle Avenue.

Additionally, the SEAB is a state mandated body. The advisory board shall do all of the following:

  • Establish program goals and objectives for pupil knowledge and skills that are likely to reduce the rates of sex, pregnancy, and sexually transmitted diseases. This subdivision does not prohibit a school district from establishing additional program goals and objectives that are not contrary to this section, section 1169, or section 1507b.
  • Review the materials and methods of instruction used and make recommendations to the board of the school district for implementation. The advisory board shall take into consideration the school district's needs, demographics, and trends, including, but not limited to, teenage pregnancy rates, sexually transmitted disease rates, and incidents of student sexual violence and harassment.
  • At least once every 2 years, evaluate, measure, and report the attainment of program goals and objectives established under subdivision (a). The board of a school district shall make the resulting report available to parents in the school district.  §380.1507(5a)

I hope this information offers some clarity regarding the goals and duties of the SEAB. Please contact me with any questions, concerns, or suggestions.
