                                       Building Trades

In the Building Trades Classroom we teach the skills necessary to be successful in a work environment.  Tool recognition and shop safety are key components in our classroom.  In addition, workplace social skills such as teamwork, responsibility, respect and reliability are taught.  Skills are taught through a series of small woodworking and home improvement projects.  The Building Trades Classroom provides students with hands-on experience, professional instruction and consistent support.  With close supervision, the students learn to use power tools such as cordless drills, hole saws, jig saws, and palm sanders.  The hand tools we use include saws, screwdrivers, hammers, utility knives, pliers, wrenches, staple guns and sand paper.  Commercial power tools such as the table saw, compound miter, radial arm saw and drill press are used by trained staff to produced needed parts for student projects.
