We are a "hands on" daily independent living program at Jo Brighton that meets the needs of those students who hope to someday live on their own in a house or an apartment.
In the apartment class we focus on daily living skills. The students are required to do basic daily hygiene, cook(reading recipes from a picture recipe book), clean, do volunteer work, check writing skills, maintain a savings account, grocery shop, social and leisure skills. In addition, PEAC, a public transportation education group, teaches the young adults of the class how to safely ride a bike around the community, follow a bus schedule and take the fixed route SMART BUS. They also help our students acquire a reduced fare bus card. This class provides independent skills needed to transition from home to independent living.
